Chateau Beychevelle is a stunning and imposing historic chateau in St. Julien. Although a fourth growth, its quality more often deserves a second growth status. It has real power and ages with ease. Huge popularity led to extensive counter fitting; now the authenticity of every bottle can be checked.

The Amiral de Beychevelle 2014 is a blend of 57% Cabernet Sauvignon and 43% Merlot from mostly young vines in the vineyard. It has an attractive bouquet, especially for a second label, with brambly black fruit mixed with graphite and incense all nicely defined. The palate is medium-bodied, fleshy on the entry with lively, brambly black fruit mixed with cassis and blueberry, not complex but harmonious and quite long. This is definitely a second wine to look out for.
