Consistently one of the top, under-the-radar wines of Pessac-Leognan, Haut-Bergey’s beautiful 2006 boasts a deep ruby/purple hue as well as a classic bouquet of hot rocks intermixed with graphite, cassis, incense, and charcoal. Medium to full-bodied with noticeable but sweet tannin, impressive purity, and an alluring texture, it is relatively evolved for a 2006, so consumption over the next 15 years is recommended.

Bright, deep ruby-red. Wild, musky aromas of red plum, dark cherry, leather, game and truffle, lifted by licorice and menthol. The palate offers very pure, vibrant flavors of plum, redcurrant and cherry. I love the combination of sweetness, supple texture and clarity of flavor on display here. Finishes long and vibrant, with firm, dusty tannins that are not at all dry. A terrific value.

Aromas of mineral, berries and green coffee bean. Full-bodied, with chewy tannins and an impressive fruit finish. A little more in the center palate would make this outstanding. Well-made for the vintage. Best after 2011. 9,165 cases made. -JS
